Daisy Low: 100 Years of the Girl Scout Journey

Learn how the Girl Scouts began directly from founder, Daisy Low (portrayed by a local girl scout leader) on Saturday, March 3, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. Daisy will share stories about the early years of the Girl Scouts and the development of the Girl Scout Journey. Girl Scout alumnae also will share their experiences. Sponsored by the History Committee of the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania. The exhibit continues through April 30.
“200 Years: Scenes from Lehigh County and Cases from County Court”

An exhibit of thirteen pen and ink drawings of Lehigh County by Susannah Thomer
This opening and reception is scheduled for the exact date on which the Pennsylvania legislature established Lehigh County in 1812. Susannah Thomer’s drawings, commissioned by the Eastern District Court’s Historical Society for their 2012 calendar, are correlated to key court cases in Lehigh County over the past 200 years.
At the opening on March 6 at 4:30 p.m., Frank Whelan, a local historian who has just completed a book about Lehigh County’s 200th anniversary, will recount the history of the founding of the County. Lehigh County Executive Don Cunningham will join judges and attorneys from the Lehigh County Bar Association for this event and reception which is open to the public. Kathryn Burke, Assistant Art Director at the Martin Art Gallery, Muhlenberg College, is our guest curator for this exhibit which continues through May 31.

The Allentown Band in Concert with the Liberty Bell Church Organ
Sunday April 22 3:00 p.m.
The Allentown Band, under the direction of Ronald Demkee, comes to Zion sanctuary for a unique concert featuring selections on Zion’s historic C.E. Haskell/Fritsche pipe organ. Jane Knotek, Director of Music Ministry at Zion, will join the band on this recently refurbished organ celebrating 100 years in 2012. The Liberty Bell Museum celebrates its own Jubilee anniversary in 2012, and proceeds from this concert benefit the museum’s educational program and anniversary project.
