Carol Ketterer Singer
Welcome to my website. I was born and raised in beautiful Upper Bucks County, Pennsylvania, where I still reside with my husband, David, and many colorful quilts.
I began sewing at an early age. In the earlier years, I sewed clothing, household and craft items. Prior to quilting, my background was in Graphic Arts. To this day, many of my quilts are very graphic and exhibit a depth that is unique in this 2D art form. I also draw from my experience of working at Byrne Sewing and many quilt shows with Bernina of America and my current employment with JoAnn Fabrics and Crafts of Quakertown, Pennsylvania.
In September 1990, the quilting bug bit and it bit hard. I found very early on that what I loved most was color and design. It didn't take long until my quilts took on a very contemporary look, stemming from my embrace of vibrant color and exploration of geometrical forms. I began traveling to quilt shows and seminars to learn as much as I could possibly learn. I spent several years at Jinny Beyer's seminars held at Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
I purchased my first longarm machine in 1996 and began my machine quilting business at that time.
I have taught in several local shops and am currently doing lectures and workshops for guilds teaching innovative techniques. I also taught at the In Stitches Show in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania in 1998.
I have had several of my quilts in a variety of quilting and sewing magazines. Some of my work has also been featured in Innovative Piecing by Rodale Press (2000) and Artful Applique by Jane Townswick (2001, published by Martigale & Company.) Most recently, I have had two of my quilts featured in the AQS (American Quilter's Society) Calendar for 2006 and also 2008.
My quilts have have been juried in several national and international shows including the Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza, the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival in Virginia, the AQS American Quilter's Society Show in Nashville,Tennessee, the International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas, and Quilt Expo in Wisconsin. I have also received awards such as Best Innovative, Best Machine Quilting, and Viewer's Choice Awards in local shows. My focus is to enter more national shows in the future.
Currently, most of my work includes hand dyed fabrics. Much of the inspiration for my quilts these days come from nature and time spent at West Colang Lake, in Pike County, Pennsylvania.
I hope that you will take a look at my gallery and see some of my creativity over the last several years.
